Similarities and Differences
Before the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, Ancient Pompeii was a popular vacation destination for wealthy Romans. Similarly, Modern Pompeii is a famous tourist attraction with nearly 2.5 million visitors every year. Ancient Pompeii was where Roman culture and civilization flourished, plenty of Roman style buildings, houses, paintings, mosaics and potteries could be seen. All these were well preserved by the volcanic ash and can be seen in Pompeii's ruins today. Ancient Pompeii was a prosperous town with many different types of commercial activities and it was an important port for import and export of agricultural products. On the other hand, Modern Pompeii's economy mainly relies on tourism.
