Ancient Pompeii
Pompeii, an Ancient Roman town located near the modern day Naples, in the region of Campania, Italy. The town is just five miles from Mt. Vesuvius which erupted in 79 AD, completely buried Pompeii and the surrounding region.
Before the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, Pompeii was a thriving town as well as a popular vacation destination for many wealthy Romans. Even Emperor Nero visited Pompeii in 64 AD. Pompeii was renowned to have many beautiful and luxurious villas and houses. Famous places in Pompeii included the Forum, the Amphitheater, the Bath Houses and the Temple of Jupiter.
